Life Drawing!

This kind of interrupted my 3D work and really wasn't something that i personally would have chosen to do just due to the fact i was really out of practice with hand drawing and was trying to move away from it for a while and concentrate totally on 3D. and this new Life drawing was going to be every day for  whole WEEK! but i am glad that i took part in it and didn't just coast through it not really trying. i will say this i didn't really stick to the likeness of the person who we got i more tried to put my own spin on him and turn him into bat man but that was only one drawing! im ging to try and find the drawing but i just cant remember what draw i put them in hmmm!

Latest character design

So my last character did work out so well. i had a sit down with dave again and looked more in depth on how to actual model in cinema in the most basic way and this is box modelling its as simple as it sounds you take a cube and pull, squash, scale, bevel, extrude and so on to get the desired shape that you want and from here i ran with it and changed my character to be a much moe organic looking cyborg!

here are some of the progress images so far.

I just started to experiment with the different shapes and tools to get some cool looking angles designs not really knowing how it would end up at first i scrapped a  lot of things but it showed me lots of skills in cinema.

by far one of my favourite parts of my model the heart its resembles the real thing but also has this really alien look to it so you may asume they are similar to us.

Pro skater over here! i was thinking of more interesting ways that he may get around so i wont back to the future on this and designed a quick hoover board it made for a different walk cycle well. push cycle i guess this could link back to my old drawn skater that i tried to cheat my walk cycle with.

messing around with textures trying to colour curtain areas that may be blood vesels or carrying some sort of organic material.

Skinny character in 3D

So i finished the storyboard it wasn't anything fancy but it got the job done and helped me in a big way to re think my overall idea because what i had wasn't working very well at all and just looked a little bit pants. But moving forward with a new brief which was to make a skinny character which was perfect i could just continue with my cyborg robot thing! i had started to lean more toward 3D when most people had decided to stay with hand drawn work because it was mainly what people had been used to be i had always found hand drawing things a very time consuming thing because of the way i draw and also being out of practice didn't help at all. Anyway i re drew my character but for the life of me i cant find any of the original dr awing or the illustrator files that i used it in, i had used illustrator to pen tool around my character to get a exact vector drawing of it i did this because  had sat down with dave a talked about 3D and how you could make a character from it easily i you know the tools and things but i was completely knew to this process so he told me that i could trace my drawing into illustrator and then take that vector drawing into cinema and pop it out in a may taking it from 2D straight to 3D ill show you the results of this in a few images below.

This was the first result that we got from just slapping it into cinema and extruding it, it wasn't exactly what i thought it would be but i was amazed that something i drew on a page was now a 3D object that i could move around in a virtual world.

so from here i started to experiment with what could be done with this very basic model.

After trying a few different things this is what i was left with i had added a few caps to the limbs and such just so that they weren't so flat and it did really help but it still wasn't what i wanted.
here are a few more just for more examples.

As you can probably see from many of these images the obvious problem with bring a drawing straight into Cinema is the its just to flat from the side everything is the same dimensions and it looks like one straight piece if you get the angle just right. I tried multiple things to fix it but it was either going to be to time consuming or i just didn't have the skills yet, either way i had to re think my character again.

Its about time!

Did a little bit of messing around in cinema 4d today, just thought i would have a go at trying to make some logo type animations and i think they turned out pretty well. i do really like the lighting i have used on the magnetic ball!
